Ms. Melissa Deegan
I knew from a very young age that I would become a Special Education teacher. Growing up with an Autistic twin brother has taught me a lot about the qualties of being a caring and successful teacher. I was able to witness first hand all the remarkable progress my brother was making through the help of the school staff. Which leads me to my beliefs as a teacher, my goal is to create a classroom environment that promotes community learning, sharing, and educational growth. I hope to make this academic year, an educational as well as a fun-filled year for the students.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a Para-professional for 5 years for the Roselle Park School District while completing my Under-graduate degree. In 2011, I graduated from the Kean University with a degree in Teacher of Students with Disabilities K-5 and English Content 5-8. Once I graduated I worked as a 6th grade Literacy teacher and 8th grade Study Skills teacher in the Roselle Park School District. November 2011 was when I decided to join the Bedminster community and have worked in various grades as a Resource room teacher, In-class support teacher, and now as a Co-teacher.
I try to be very active when it comes to the Bedminster community. I am a chaperone when it comes to school trips, such as the 6th grade trip to Stokes and the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C.. I am also a chaperone to the afterschool Ski Club and an assistant coach for Soccer. I have also participated in school events, such as the Volleyball game, Student/Faculty Basketball game, and Softball Game.
