Welcome to First Grade! My name is Mrs. Lovejoy and I will be your child’s teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. This is my fourteenth year teaching at Bedminster School. I have previously taught both second and third grade as well. I love first grade for so many reasons, but most of all because of my love for reading. I am also a certified Reading Specialist, which allows me to pass on my love for reading and passion for teaching it to my students.
I would like to share a little about myself with you. My husband and I live nearby in Branchburg Township. He is a teacher, as well, and a lacrosse coach of various ages and teams. We have three girls, Mackenzy (7 years old), Madison (5 years old), and Makayla (1 year old). Our girls bring so much love and joy into our lives. Being a parent has been the most amazing blessing. I now have a greater understanding of the importance of my job and the responsibilities it entails. I know you are entrusting me with your children to do the best job that I can do as I do with my children’s teachers.
Let me continue by saying I am so excited to experience first grade with your children, but also to pass on my knowledge of what they’ll need continuing into second grade. I can ensure that I will give each one of your children my all while they are with me at school. I am eager for this year and for all that’s to come. I have very high hopes for your children and for myself. I assure you that they will have a wonderful year of learning, being challenged, exploring technology, and most importantly enjoying school on a day to day basis in a safe learning environment.
There are a few things that I need to communicate with you. For starters, we eat lunch around 11:00. Therefore, we will have snack in the afternoon. It is important that you send in a snack with your child every day. You may want to keep it separate from their lunch because it may get eaten at lunch time. Additionally, we do have students with specific allergies in our class so we all need to remember that the classrooms are all nut free.
First grade students will achieve many things this year in terms of academic growth, greater self-confidence, and improved social skills. Good communication between parent, teacher, and student is very important for your child’s academic success. I truly believe that your child’s education is a team process. I have a variety of ways that you and I will be able to communicate throughout the year. Each night the students will be responsible for bringing home their take home folder. Inside their take home folder you will be able to locate their daily communicator, homework, and any important papers. Their daily communicator will be used to identify what their homework is for each specific evening along with reminders of the week’s happenings. You will need to initial it each night. This will communicate to me that you have looked through your child’s folder and are aware of what homework needs to be completed and that you have received any important papers sent home. If at any point you need to tell me something or have a question, you can always write it down on their daily communicator and I will be able to communicate back with you. Another way to communicate with me is through email. I check my email several times a day. You can also call me here at Bedminster School and leave a message for me on my voice mailbox. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org and I can be reached at 908-234-0768 ext. 109. Additional, you will receive information about our ClassDojo account, which will be used primarily for communication and sharing photos in a safe manner. If you are looking for the most prompt response, email is always best.
The other first grade teachers and I have been busy planning many wonderful activities for the year ahead. This should be a very exciting and educational school year for your child. They will delve into many genres of books, experience many forms of writing, and gain challenging math skills. I promise to do my best in making sure your child enjoys coming to school every day and most importantly is always learning something new!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I am greatly looking forward to seeing you all on Back to School Night!
