Intramural sports are listed later in this section.ARTS & CRAFTS CLUB - Grades 2 and 3 (three sessions)Students will have the opportunity to artistically create a variety of arts and crafts projects. Several projects will be assembled during the course of the sessions.Supply fee is $12.00 per student, per cycle.BEHIND THE SCENESThe Behind the Scenes club is for those students interested in making the scenery or serving as the stage crew for the Bedminster Middle School Drama Club. Students will learn how to build, paint and create scenery and props for plays. Students will also learn the different jobs, skills and responsibilities necessary for a stage production. Interested students may learn how to use the school's sound and lighting equipment or maybe learn to be stage manager for a production. Several students in this club will be selected to be the Middle School Drama Club Tech & Stage Crew for this year’s Middle School Musical Production. Stage & Tech Crew students will have additional rehearsals.Eligible Students: Grades 5-8CHESS CLUB & CHESS CLUB - BEGINNERSBeginners:Each session will be devoted to both instructional and recreational play.Learning Objectives for Beginners include:
- chess rules and etiquette
- set-up of the chessboard
- moves and values of individual pieces
- standard opening moves
- specialized moves including castling and capturing en passant
- strategies for checking and mating
tactics used to attack and defend
Eligible Students: Grades 3-4 on a first come, first served basis (limit 20 students)Chess ClubChess Club strives to develop beginning chess players through instruction, game and in-house tournament play and provides opportunities for out-of-school tournament play.
COMPUTER CLUBGrades 2-3This club is designed to help students to become more familiar with the school’s computers. Students will be introduced to grade appropriate web quests, district programs, educational games, and word processing projects.
COOKING CLUBThe emphasis of the club is on learning the fundamentals of safe cooking. There will be a variety of menus for snacks and fun desserts. All classes will meet outside room 262 after school. Supply fee is $17.00 per student, per cycle.Eligible Students: Grades 3 (limit 12 students)
DRAMA CLUB- Middle SchoolThe Drama Club prepares and performs one theatrical or musical production during the school year. All students in grades 5-8 are welcome to audition for roles in our production. A certain number will be chosen based on audition requirements for each production. Students not making the Cast List for our show may still participate in our supporting clubs: the “Behind the Scenes” Club or Scenery Art Club.
Meetings: Meeting dates & times are published on a monthly calendar and are posted on the school website. The Drama Club meets 2-3 days a week from January – mid April.
Time: Usually 3:35 – 4:25 pm, or 8:00 – 8:50 am several days a week. Longer rehearsals are necessary closer to the shows performance dates.Eligible Students: Grades 5-8
ENVIRONMENTAL CLUBStudents will have the opportunity to explore the environment found across the area. Activities will take place outdoors.Eligible Students: Grades 4-8 (maximum of 25 students may participate)
HOMEWORK/COMPUTER CLUBHomework Club provides a positive, academic atmosphere in which to study. In addition to completing homework, students will also be able to use computers to research and finish assignments. The program encourages independent and cooperative study skills. Teachers will assist students with homework as time allows.Meetings: September through April.Eligible Students: Grades 4-8 (limit of 20 students)
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAMBedminster Township School provides many opportunities for students to participate in our instrumental music program. We currently have two bands and a jazz band for students in grades 4-8. Our string orchestra and junior orchestra are open to string players in grades 3-8. Second graders are encouraged to join our Suzuki strings program where they can learn to play violin, viola or cello in a fun, exciting way.
Meetings: Lessons and ensemble rehearsals usually meet one time a week during the school day. Our bands and jazz band for grades 5-8, along with string orchestra usually rehearse one morning a week before school at 8:00 am.

Eligible Students: All interested students are eligible to participate in the ensemble(s) for their grade level. There is usually no limit to the number of students who may participate in one of our music ensembles. Please call Mr. Lefurge if you have any questions.
LITERARY MAGAZINEThe literary magazine consists of a 7th grade edition and an 8th grade edition. The magazine is comprised of the creative writings of the students on topics of choice as well as responses and reactions to literature. Magazine themes (if used) vary from year to year.
Meetings: Magazine is a product of on going, in-class work; compilation is done both during and after school.
Eligible Students: All students in grades 7 and 8PARADESThe parade band is comprised of band members in grades 4-8. We perform music for two Halloween Parades and for the Bedminster Township Memorial Day parade.
Meetings: The parade band meets several times a year before school at 8:00 am and during the school day to rehearse music for their upcoming parades.
Time: Meeting times are published on a monthly calendar and are posted on the school website.Eligible Students: Grades 4-8, there is usually no limit to the number of students who may participate in the parade bandSCENERY ART CLUBThis club is for students who love art and want to participate in the actual paintings and design of the huge backdrops, moveable props, and special effects that compliment the cast for the annual Bedminster Middle School Drama Performance. Students in grades 5-8 are eligible to join. They will be responsible for the decorative painting and details for the numerous scene changes that make each drama production unique.Eligible Students: Grades 5-8, limited enrollmentSCIENCE CLUBThe Grade 2 students will have the opportunity to learn about gene traits, aeronautics, predator and prey relationships, take nature hikes and search for a variety of plant and animal life. Other areas of interest may be discussed.The Grade 2-3 students will have the opportunity to learn about adopting an endangered species. The following topics will be studies: birds, wetlands, erosion, and weathering. Other areas of interest may be discussed.The Grade 3 students will have the opportunity to learn about adopting an endangered species. The following topics will be studies: birds, wetlands, erosion, and weathering. Other areas of interest may be discussed.Eligible Students: Grades 1-3 (Maximum of 25 students may participate in each club)
SKI CLUBThe Ski Club gives its members a chance to learn and practice skiing and snow boarding skills. Six after school trips are taken to Shawnee Mountain in Pennsylvania. Club members enjoy an evening of skiing and snow boarding and return to Bedminster by 9:15 pm.
Meetings: Tuesdays beginning in January for six weeks. Season is extended if a trip is cancelled due to weather.
Time: 3:30 pm - 9:15 pm
Eligible Students: Grades 6 (grades 7 & 8 are given first opportunity, if space is available). Students must sign-up by mid-November.
STORY TIMEStudents will have the opportunity to listen to a story, participate in an activity related to the story, and enjoy a healthy peanut-free snack that is sent in from home.Eligible Students: Kindergarten & Grade 1

VOCAL MUSIC PROGRAMBedminster Township School has two choral ensembles. The Treble Chorus is comprised of students in grades 3 & 4. Students are invited to audition for this vocal ensemble. Their repertoire includes a variety of unison, two-part, and occasionally three-part music in treble voicing. The Concert Chorus is comprised of students in grades 5, 6, 7 & 8. Their repertoire includes a variety of music, usually in three parts, in mixed voicing.
Meeting times: Specific meeting times are published on a monthly calendar and posted on the school website.Eligible Students: All interested students in grades 3 & 4 may audition to participate in Treble Chorus. Interested students in grades 5-8 are welcome and encouraged to join our Concert Chorus.
Writing Club gives students the opportunity to learn, discuss, and expand one's knowledge of writing. All students will complete various forms of writing of choice. Students will be encouraged and guided through the process using a writing folder and supporting materials.Meetings: Room 307
